THE HALO PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY PHARMACY SCOTLAND
DIGITAL HEALTH INNOVATIONS TO BE DEVELOPED AT THE HALO
The HALO Scotland and Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) today (25 March 2019) announce a partnership to develop the latest innovations in digital health and pharmacy.
Based at The HALO’s Enterprise and Innovation Hub in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, CPS will use state of the art digital innovations to assess what skills will be needed to excel in an ever-changing health sector.
Students from across Ayrshire are set to benefit from the partnership. The HALO and CPS, which represents the 1,257 community pharmacies throughout Scotland, will offer the latest skills development in health and pharmacy.
The partnership will:
- use the latest digital tools to explore new innovations for use in pharmacies throughout Scotland
- develop cyber and digital technologies to improve and personalise pharmaceutical services
- collaborate with NHS Ayrshire and Arran and East Ayrshire Council to help develop and modernise health care and pharmacies
- support innovative start-up, step-up and scale-up entrepreneurial businesses, particularly those involved in digital health.
The HALO is an imaginative regeneration initiative located on the site of the former Johnnie Walker bottling plant in Kilmarnock East Ayrshire. The HALO is being shaped as a multi-faceted brown-field regeneration that will create a unique urban park with a dynamic commercial, educational, cultural, leisure and lifestyle quarter.
Marie Macklin CBE, Founder and Executive Chair of the HALO Urban Regeneration Company, said: “Pharmacies play a vital role in the health sector and are a huge asset to local communities.
“This partnership will see digital and cyber technologies developed at the HALO’s Enterprise and Innovation Hub and will provide CPS with the tools to monitor the skills needs of the pharmacy sector.
“I am truly excited that by working alongside CPS, the HALO will provide students and the young people of Ayrshire with essential education opportunities and skills development in digital health.”
Martin Green, Chairman of CPS, said: “Health and Social care, along with digital technology, have always been sectors which have had to respond to the changing needs of their markets at breakneck speed – but it’s probably fair to say that this doesn’t always happen hand-in-hand, nor does the pace of upskilling the workforce to utilize emerging technology to its fullest.”
“This project aims to buck that trend, bringing together the unique strengths of CPS and The HALO so that we can ensure that digital solutions can be delivered by pharmacy staff with the knowledge and skills required to support self-care and have a real and lasting impact on people’s health outcomes.”
