Dr Marie Macklin CBE has presented a masterclass on the HALO to her fellow alumni at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).

The university invited Marie on to campus to present its students, staff and alumni with a HALO engagement piece on: ‘Changing Tomorrow’s World: HALO – Live, Work, Learn & Play and the Race to Zero Carbon’.

Guests at the masterclass heard how the HALO is on track to create a cyber and digital training and learning facility at the forefront of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’.

At the student round table, Marie also explained how the HALO will provide a sustainable community approach to a mixed-use development powered by electricity with a net zero carbon footprint.

GCU has eight masterclasses each academic year designed to give industry leaders a platform for sharing the latest thinking and developments on a topic of interest to students, staff and the general public. It also provides an opportunity for building relationships between industry leaders and the university.

Marie followed the masterclass with a Q&A facilitated by Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor James Miller.

Dr Marie Macklin CBE, Founder and Executive Chair of the HALO Urban Regeneration Company, said: “It was a huge honour to be able to give a masterclass on the HALO to the students, staff and my fellow alumni at Glasgow Caledonian University.

“It is always a pleasure returning to the university where I learnt so many skills and had so many life experiences that have truly benefited me throughout my career.

“I would like to thank Professor James Miller and all of the team at the university for showing interest in the HALO and inviting me to showcase how the HALO is the first net zero carbon energy project in Scotland, setting the standard for low carbon energy sites across the UK.”

Last year, Marie accepted her Honorary Degree from GCU at its Graduation and Awards ceremony at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall making her a Doctor of Business Administration.

The University Senate recognised Marie’s “outstanding contribution to the business world and her outstanding commitment to GCU students and the work of the University for the Common Good”.
