Today, Monday 1 July, SP Energy Networks announced that The HALO in Kilmarnock has been awarded a share of £10million from the Green Economy Fund to help the project pursue its green ambitions.
The Green Economy Fund was established in 2018, by SP Energy Networks, the licensed Electricity Distributor (DNO) for Central & Southern Scotland. The fund aims to support projects that will ultimately help the Scottish Government in reaching its green targets, which aim to boost local economic growth, improve air quality in our cities and deliver a better future, quicker for our communities. The fund does this by helping projects that promote low-carbon heating, low-carbon transport, or the education of Scotland’s workforce for a greener future.
The HALO Kilmarnock has been awarded £415,000 by the Green Economy Fund and will use it to deliver a sustainable low carbon energy system, using 100% renewable energy to service businesses and the residential community at The HALO Kilmarnock. The project is an innovative urban regeneration initiative that is set to revitalise the centre of Kilmarnock and support the growth and resilience of the Ayrshire economy through the training and re-skilling of young people in the area.
Marie Macklin, founder and Executive Chair of The HALO Urban Regeneration Company, said: “The HALO development is going to transform this part of Kilmarnock and have a very positive influence on the economy of Ayrshire and of Scotland as a whole, but it’s important that we do that with minimal environmental impact. This funding from the Green Economy Fund will make a significant contribution to The HALO’s sustainability by supporting our ability to harness renewable energy right across the development.”
